Clarion CZ 702 Review
It’s compatible with HD Radio and SiriusXM satellite radio.
It only has five EQ presets.
The Clarion CZ702 provides excellent audio and gives you the option of adding HD Radio and SiriusXM satellite radio, but it doesn’t give you as much control over your sound as the best car stereos.
The Clarion CZ702 lives up to the Clarion reputation for high-fidelity audio. Though it doesn’t have as many customizable equalizer bands as the best car stereos, the audio quality is excellent. While the amplifier is only average, the output signal is among the strongest we reviewed, making for a clean signal with little unwanted noise. You can play almost every form of audio, and the smartphone integration with Bluetooth is comprehensive.
The maximum power output is 200 watts and the continuous power output is 76 RMS watts. While those power ratings are average for a car sound system, the 5-volt pre-out voltage is among the best available. The strong voltage means your speakers get a much cleaner signal to play than you get with weaker pre-out voltages. In addition, the CD player has a signal-to-noise ratio of 94 dB, which means that the desired signal is 94 dB greater than any unwanted signals, which are usually heard as hums or buzzing from the speakers. With such a high S/N ratio, the CD player provides some of the best audio you’ll find in a car stereo.
Despite having great audio, the CZ702 only has five EQ bands for you to control. For comparison, the best car audio systems have 10 to 13 EQ bands. Since cars have unique acoustic landscapes, you want to have as much control over the audio frequencies as possible. Fortunately, you have 12 dB of leeway to enhance or diminish those EQ bands, which is more than any car stereo we reviewed. This is most noticeable in the bass preset. If you want big, punchy bass, it delivers.
The Clarion CZ702 gives you many different playback options. You have the traditional AM/FM radio, a CD player, a USB port, an AUX port and Bluetooth streaming. It features complete Pandora and iPad controls. Unfortunately, the USB port is in the rear, which means you have to wire a USB cord from behind the dash. This isn’t very easy with many cars. It can’t play WAV or AAC files from the USB port either. It has features and controls designed for HD Radio and SiriusXM radio, but you have to purchase and install the receivers separately.
The Clarion CZ702 has only average power ratings of 200 max watts and 76 RMS continuous watts, but the audio quality rivals the best car stereos on the market. With only five EQ settings, you don’t have a lot of control over the customization of your audio. However, the Bluetooth connectivity for calling and controlling apps like Pandora is comprehensive.

I bought this radio to replace the stock tuner in my Porsche 996. My primary criteria were that the head unit have as little bling as possible (so no chrome), that it have a USB input source, that it offer random play, and that the display color could be set to match the other displays in my car (amber, in a Porsche). The CZ702 was really the ONLY unit that I found that met all my criteria.
There are some things about the CZ702 that weren’t obvious from all my research. First, the HD antenna must be purchased separately. It’s the Clarion THD301. Second, random play only works against the entire CD/USB drive; you cannot randomly play within a single folder. This was very disappointing to me, as I had to buy multiple USB thumb drives to keep my various genres separate. I don’t want to randomly play between my classical music tastes and my pop music collection, for example. I felt that the limited random play ability was a major disappointment. Finally, the USB input is at the end of a 18″ extension cable, so you can place the connector conveniently within the cabin.
I am happy with the CZ702. The output is much higher quality than the original radio in the Porsche. I don’t feel the need to upgrade my speakers/amplifier after installing this radio.

Great quality! My first and hopefully last Clarion receiver. The microphone internal and external option works awesome through the speakers. Many expansion options to connection iPod/iPhones, Android, USB drive, and Bluetooth audio streaming. Quality is #1 (I’ve used other head units like Sony, Kenwood, etc. Clarion beats them hands down). Pick it up now!

CZ702 – sweet!!
This is a good source unit. It has good expandability such as – 6 pre-outs, Rear USB and built in bluetooth. In terms of features there is the option for 3-way tuning with a wide variety of crossover points and even time alignment, also the multi color display is a cool feature. The CZ702 is an excellent unit for SQ, there are how ever a few CONS:- The buttons on the face are a little hard to press for tuning purposes (these should have been on the remote), the AUX in is located on the face (I prefer a rear one) and the learning curve on the settings is a little steep but bearable. All in all its a good buy and I recommend it to any one looking for a good SQ friendly Source Unit.

If you are interested in sound quality first and are on a budget I would highly recommend this clarion head unit. I have it running a clarion xr2420 4 channel amp and an alpine mrpt220 2 channel amp. The clarion amp powers two pairs of infinity kappa perfect 6.5″ components and the alpine is bridged powering a b&w sub. It sounds awesome and has a nice clean look. It also offers great crossover and equalizer control. IPod control is great. I have not used the Bluetooth yet. I would give it 5 stars if it were a little easier to use. Sound quality is a solid 5 stars Very nice unit

Best sounding head unit I’ve had in quite awhile, only have room in my car for single din, so did my research, and this and a pioneer were the ones with the best stats, opted for the clarion cause I owned both brands one time or another and the clarion held up better in the Arizona heat
